Dear Parent:

This May 9-11 (Mother's Day Weekend) the annual Adventure Guides Spring Campout is being held at Camp Tecumseh, near West Lafayette, Indiana. This is a popular event where Dad's get to spend one-on-one time with their son(s) or daughter(s). Camp Tecumseh is a YMCA campground with many recreational facilities such as slides, a climbing wall, canoeing, paddle boats, fishing, nature center, arts and crafts and many other activities. Horseback riding, archery and the rifle range are especially popular. They've recently added a zip line over the lake for some of the older campers. Hiking the many trails is exciting , as is the Saturday night campfire, where the YMCA staff presents stories, songs and skits. In the past we've had a night hike to the Ghost Cabin after the campfire, which the kids always look forward to.

Although it is called a campout, there are no tents or other "roughing it" features. Everyone stays in modern, heated cabins with private toilets and showers. There is plenty of hot water! Meals are provided by the on-site YMCA staff in one of two large and modern dining halls. There is cereal, fruit, salad bars, hot meals and deserts. No one goes away hungry or disappointed!

All of the recreational activities are supervised by YMCA staff, with strict emphasis on safety. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

The age range for this program is roughly kindergarten through 5th grade. My four kids have been in this program for several years and look forward to the campout each spring. It's a rare chance to spend "quality time" in a relaxed atmosphere. Please give it some consideration. We usually get a group of friends together and stay in the same cabin (a cabin hold about 14 persons). Before changing the name to Adventure Guides this was the Indian Princesses or Indian Guides program and we were grouped together in tribes (Navajo, etc). You can create your own or the local YMCA will help to organize a group.

The cost is $55 for non-members ($40 for members), which includes one child, with an additional $10 for each child. Registration on the YMCA web site is here.

Further information Camp Tecumseh can be found at their website.
